## <a name="Latest Status and News"></a> Latest Status and News

2003/11/26: Right now most of the avionics team energy is being spent on the [[cylindrical patch antennas|CommunicationsTeamHome]]: without comm, the whole system isn't worth much. After we have working antennas, this will hopefully change and we'll get back to work on the avionics systems.

Still waiting for the other shoe to drop on the FC's Intel 82527 CAN controller chip. If it indeed can't read random RTR bit messages, then we'll need to completely revamp our higher layer CAN protocol and repogram all the nodes. That said, there's a lot do to the nodes anyway so this might not be terrible: we're working on the next generation power node, next generation recovery (pyrotechnic) node with 2m radio, and there's a ton do just cleaning things up.

2003/11/24: The CANtalope project has officially released v1.0 of the CANtalope code. Hooray! We have a working CAN bus monitor.

[[FlightComputer]]: An x86 running Linux 2.4.18, the FC is the core of the avionics system.

[[CanNodes]]: The avionics system uses the Controller Area Network (CAN) bus, a 1 Mbps serial multi-master bus, to communicate between the FC and the various nodes. Each sensor and actuator gets it's own CAN node:
